Red Bull Global Rallycross veterans Tanner Foust and Steve Arpin split the first doubleheader of the 2017 season, with each driver taking a Supercar victory at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. Foust posted a clean sweep of Saturday's action, and was four laps away from doing so again on Sunday before a broken wheel ended his chances at a perfect weekend.
“On paper, this track looked pretty smooth, but the cars took a beating, so hats off to the VARX team for putting everything together!” Foust said on Saturday. “In every heat, we were fighting for it. This really is a very cool track—it’s a cool piece of American history to come here on the oldest paved oval in the country.”
“The Jacob Companies car has been so fast all weekend,” Arpin added on Sunday. “Tanner has been a little bit quicker, but we knew we could just stay on him and put pressure on him. That’s why I followed him into the Joker—I knew we couldn’t catch him and pass him, but we had to keep the pressure on, and it worked.”
In GRC Lites, Cyril Raymond managed what the Supercar drivers couldn't: wins in every race session on both Saturday and Sunday, on the way to taking the points lead. Only a second place in Sunday qualifying stood between the Olsbergs MSE X Forces driver and a clean sweep of the weekend.
